Frequently Asked Questions
You deserve a therapy experience that feels transparent and intentional from the very first click. Below, I’ve outlined the practical logistics of how I work — from my approach to trauma and relationship clarity to the details of out-of-network care and scheduling. If you’re looking for therapy that respects your complexity and values your time, these answers are a good place to start.
Common Questions
Practice Logistics
What are some of the things people come to you for?
Trauma and PTSD (including single-incident events like sexual assaults or witnessing or experiencing life-threatening events), anxiety and panic attacks, relationship issues (communication breakdowns, trust issues, navigating non-monogamy), chronic stress and burnout, life transitions, identity exploration, and nervous system regulation. I work with people who are tired of just managing symptoms and want actual transformation. If you're exhausted from pretending you're fine when your body is screaming otherwise, or you keep repeating the same relationship patterns and can't figure out why, you're in the right place.
Do you take insurance?
No. I'm an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. Choosing to work outside of insurance protects your privacy and gives us flexibility to move at a pace that supports meaningful, trauma-informed work. I can provide you with a superbill (a detailed receipt with diagnosis) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits. Many insurance plans will reimburse a portion of out-of-network therapy costs. I recommend calling your insurance company to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before we start working together.
What does EMDRIA Certified Therapist™ mean?
In simple terms, it means I didn’t stop at the initial, 50-hour basic training. While any licensed therapist can technically "do" EMDR after that foundational course, becoming Certified means I’ve committed to a longer, more supervised path of learning.
For me, pursuing the title was about making sure I was doing right by my clients. It involved over 50 extra hours of clinical practice and more than 20 additional hours of direct consultation with EMDR experts to refine my skills. When we do EMDR therapy together, it means you’re working with someone who stays deeply connected to the EMDR community and the latest research. I don’t have all the answers, but I have a dedicated map and a commitment to clinical excellence that guides our work together.

Where are you located?
The office is nestled in the heart of historic downtown Leesburg at 19 Wirt St SW, #205, near Town Hall. You’ll find us in the same character-filled building as Shake and Bops Botanical Cafe. To ensure a sense of quiet and discretion for our clients, the entrance is tucked away behind a private brick walkway.
A Note on Accessibility & Our Historic Space: The office is located on the second floor of a beautiful, historic building, and the office is only accessible via a flight of stairs. I recognize that this may not be a fit for everyone’s physical needs. If stairs present a barrier for you, I'm fully committed to ensuring you receive the same deep, high-quality care through telehealth, allowing you to engage in therapy from the comfort and accessibility of your own home or other private location.
Do you offer virtual therapy?
Yes. I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual therapy sessions for clients physically located anywhere in Virginia. Virtual sessions work great for individual therapy, EMDR, as well as for many couples trying to sync schedules. Some people prefer the convenience of meeting from home, while others like the structure of coming to the office. We can figure out what works best for you.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. If you cancel with less than 24 hours' notice or miss your appointment without canceling, you'll be charged the full session fee. I understand life happens, and I hold this time specifically for you. Last-minute cancellations mean I can't offer that slot to someone else who needs it.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on what you're working on and what you want to accomplish. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific issue. Others stay longer to do deeper work on relationship patterns or complex trauma. I'm not interested in keeping you in therapy forever. We'll talk about your goals in the first session and revisit them regularly so you know where you're at.
What happens in the first session?
We'll start by reviewing key practice policies (e.g., informed consent, cancellation policy). Then we'll shift to talking about what brought you in, what you're struggling with, and what you want to be different. I'll ask questions about your history, current relationships, and what you've already tried. This is also where you get to ask me questions and see if we're a good fit. By the end of the session, you'll have a clear sense of what working together would look like and whether this feels right for you.
How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?
Honestly? You won't know until we talk. Therapy only works if you feel safe and understood with your therapist. Some people know in the first session that we're a good match. Others need a few sessions to be sure. If you're reading this and thinking "she gets it," that's a good sign. Schedule a consultation, and we'll figure out together if this is the right fit.
Do you support LGBTQIA+ individuals and gender-expansive identities?
My commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community goes beyond being inclusive; I'm deeply and actively affirming. I believe that your identity, orientation, and self-expression are integral to your wholeness, not obstacles to your wellness.
While I bring a foundational understanding of the unique stressors and nuances within the LGBTQIA+ community, from navigating systems to the complexities of identity and chosen family, I recognize that you are the only true expert on your own experience. My role isn't to define your journey for you, but to walk alongside you as a grounded, knowledgeable partner. I provide the steady, affirming framework. You provide the direction. Together, we ensure your therapy feels safe and that your voice is the one that matters most.
Do you offer couples therapy?
Yes. I specialize in couples therapy for people navigating non-monogamy, polyamory, and open relationships. I also work with couples who feel the weight of resentment, disconnect, or a mismatch in desire. My approach isn't about saving a marriage or relationship at all costs; it’s about restoring emotional safety and clarity. We’ll look beneath the surface of your conflicts to understand what's happening for each of you and in the space between you. Whether you're navigating a shift in your relationship structure or simply trying to find your way back to each other after years of autopilot, couples therapy creates the space to see if a healthy, sustainable connection is possible.
How do I schedule an appointment?
I use a secure, user-friendly portal called SimplePractice to make the logistics of starting therapy as stress-free as possible. You can view my live calendar and self-schedule your sessions up to four weeks in advance.
Once you enter the portal, you’ll simply:
- Select your location (in-person in the Leesburg office or a virtual appointment).
- Choose your session type (e.g., a 50-minute individual session or 90-minute extended couples session).
- Submit your request. I'll personally review the request and send you a confirmation email to finalize the appointment.

A Note on Intensives: Because therapy intensives require a unique, custom-tailored block of time, they cannot be self-scheduled through the portal. To explore or book an intensive, please reach out to me directly so we can coordinate a schedule that fits your needs.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Only for select intensives. Otherwise, I typically see clients Monday-Thursday, 8 AM-3 PM.
Can I bring my partner to individual therapy sessions?
Occasionally, yes. If there's something specific we need to address together, or it would be helpful for your partner to understand what you're working on, we can schedule a session where they join. But your individual therapy is your space. If you want ongoing couples work, I'd refer you all out for separate couples therapy.
